DEATH

1911 James (2nd) BAWDEN parents JAMES & MARTHA died in TUMUT - (Ref- NSW BDM 7773/1911).

Newspaper report - Death of MR. JAS. BOWDEN

It becomes our melancholy duty to record the demise, at the age of 55 years, of Mr James Bowden, of West Blowering, whioh occured at his residence at 8 p.m. on Saturday last, the cause of death being carokiomia of the liver.

The poor fellow had been a long and patient sufferer from the fell disease, he had been attended by Drs. Mason and Browne, who did their best to alleviate his troubles.

Another landmark from West Blowering has gone to that land "where the wicked ceasa from troubling and the weary are at rest."

Deceased was an old resident of Tumut, quiet, inoffensive and unobtrusive character, and his loss will be felt by his many friends, for whom he was ever ready, in his time, to do a friendly turn.

His sorrowing wife, while life remained in her husband, had hope, and was anxious to get him down to Sydney for treatment; but was strenuously advised there was no possible chance of recovery, as his trouble was too deep seated to permit of success.

He leaves behind him a sorrowing wife, three sons and five daughters

(one Mrs Tozer, of Adaminaby) to mourn their loss.

His remains were interred in the R.C. portion of the new cemetery on Monday last. Mr Jas Elphick was the undertaker, and Rev Father Slattery read the last sad rites at the grave. We tender the bereaved our deepest sympathy. - (Ref- The Tumut Advocate and Farmers & Settlers' Adviser (NSW : 1903 - 1925)(about) Previous issue Tuesday 30 May 1911 Page 2).

COUNTRY NEWS. - FALL FROM HORSE. TUMUT. Thur

John C. Halloran, aged 17 years, a son of Mr Thos. Halloran, of Tumut Plains, died on Satur-day as a result of being thrown from his horse on the second day of the Show, He was found unconscious by the roadside. The Coroner (Mr. R. L. Blakeney, J.P.) returned a verdict of accidental death. - (Ref- The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954)(about) Previous issue Friday 9 March 1928 Page 12).

BL0WERING Sincere regret was expressed on Saturday when it became known that Pte E. Bowden had been killed in action, The deceased soldier spent the greater parfe of his life at Blowering, and was a general favorlie; owing to his quite disposition and good workmanlike qualities.

When out of employment he stayed at Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Bourke's and a few hours afte the news of his death Miss Kate Bourke received a long letter from him, stating how well he was getting on, the joy he took in carrying out the military orders and the pleasure of soon being ready for service at the front. He appears to have fallen in the great battle of Messines. The baifcies of Marne, the Somme, Poziers and Jut land have their places in song and story; but it will probably prove that Messines will be the turning point in the world's greatest duel. It was his great wish to fight for King and country, and, as it was his lot to fall, what nobler place than Mt. Messines? The people of Blowering extend to his relatives and friends their most sincere sympathy. - (Ref- Adelong and Tumut Express and Tumbarumba Post (NSW : 1900 - 1925)(about) Previous issue Friday 22 June 1917 Page 3).
