ALEXANDER RANKIN, Farmer and Grazier, has been a colonist of Australia for the past thirtysix years, and is a member of a very old Highland family, resident for many generations in Argyleshire.

Born in 1828 he pursued farming on his father's place until 1852, when he came out to Port Phillip and for a couple of years followed mining and other pursuits. He then in conjunction with his cousins, the Rankins', went with sheep in search of land on the Darling, but after two years of unsuccessful exploring they came to the Tumut district, where Mr. Alexander Rankin settled on his present farm at Brungle. He has 1000 acres of agricultural and grazing land, well watered which is capable of sustaining about 800 sheep, 120 head of cattle and thirty horses. He is well known in the district as one of the oldest pioneers, and is a member of the Church of England. He was married in 1858 to the daughter of Mr. H Cameron of Locksley, Invernesshire, Scotland.
