HAMPTON PLAINS - MINING FIELD -

MR. F. G. WHITE'S

IMPRESSIONS "MAJORITY OF WILD OATS"

Mr F. G. White, of the firm of Messrs. White and Hosier has just returned from a visit to the Hampton Plains gold field;

In conversation with a Mr White said that the Celebration, lease is about 20 miles-sMr. White said that it appeared as if the gold obtained east and west of the gold channel referred to was probably alluvial gold shed from the main ore channel, as the fact of the White Hope Company working on sulphides from the surface would give some idea of the great denudation that had occurred from the original reef.

Mr White continued as is usual with new mining fields shares have been greatly over valued. The Celebration Company consists of 250,000 £1 shares which have reached £2 10/ each on the market, and the White Hope Company 160,000 shares of £1 each which have reached £4 10/ each on the market. When these are compared with Broken Hill stocks it shows the absurd values on present developments. The Broken Hill North Company consists of 600.000 shares at £3 each, and the South 800,000 at £3 each, both of whom have ore equal to two pr,'- three ounces of gold (according to metal quotes), and lo years actual developed life. - The White Hope : Company has three shaftfr-60, 90,. and 50ffc." respectively showing as says varying from 10 to, 30 penny weights of gold for the ton. It appears as if colors can be got almost anywhere in these two big freehold blocks, and excited prospectors at once obtain a lease and form a company, with the result that there are now about 400 companies, of which probably 380 will not be much good. It is remarkable how Adelaide mainly has formed and absorbed so many companies with a considerable caU paying probability in the future. . : . i--.. Speaking broadly there is little known beyond the point of the pick excepting only, what appears to be the north and south ore channel correlating with the Great Boulder field ore channel. Although I have given you these particulars, I am not saying that the field has not got a good chance, but I consider that the average investor should be protected against what is undoubtfully a very heavy majority of wild ones.- (Ref- Barrier Miner (Broken Hill, NSW : 1888 - 1954)(about) Previous issue Monday 17 May 1920).
