1. Martha ANDERSON was born on the 24th February, 1831 in Kent, England christened on the 10th April, 1831, in Wesleyan Church, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England. She married Frances FOORD in Tumut, NSW.

3.Francis ANDERSON born on the 3rd April, 1833, in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England christened on the 5th May, 1833, in Wesleyan Church, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England.

4. Abraham ANDERSON born on the 26th October, 1836, in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England.

5.Henry ANDERSON born on the 1st December, 1842, in Tumut, NSW.

6.Maria ANDERSON born on the 15th December, 1844, in Tumut, NSW.

TRIP TO AUSTRALIA

On the 20th December, 1838 the "Roxburg Castle" an east India trading company ship that was 600-ton and built on the Thames in 1825 left Plymouth for NSW, Australia. Arriving in Sydney after a 5 month journey on the 26th May, 1839.

Passangers totaled 113 men, 102 women, 52 boys, and 54 girls. There were 15 deaths during the voyage and 3 babies were born.

Amoung the passangers was Francis Anderson, 32 years of age, an educated free citizen and a blacksmith and vet surgeon to Queen Victoria from Canterbury Kent.

His wife Martha aged 33, a dressmaker was also an educated free citizen from Kent,

one son Abraham aged 4,

an elder girl Martha aged 8 and

a younger girl named Sarah aged 6.

Also a passanger was Francis Foord, a free educated youth of 18 years, an immigrant sponsored by John Marshall and proceeding to a position in Queenbayan, he later arrived in Tumut and resumed his association with the Anderson family.

He married Martha Anderson when she was 16 years old and acquired land and set himself up as a wheel wright.

Francis (2nd) Anderson acquired propety on the Tumut River at Bombawlee, at his death he left each son a portion of it.

His eldest son Abraham had the home block which was farmed by Abraham's son Earnest till his death in 1944. It was then Sold.

and spent the remaing 21 years of his life in the Colony of NSW. Francis along with his son in-law Francis Foord were amongst the first white settlers in the Tumut district.

They built a bridge across the Tumut River. This bridge and buildings became the begining foundation of the original town of Tumut.
