Late on Thursday night says the Tumut the distressing intelligence was received of the death by drowning that day of Miss E. Bridle, daughter of Mr J. E. Bridle, of Bowler's Flat, and Miss Darlew.
From the particulars to hand it appears that the two girls, who were 14 or 15 years of age, had gone to the river about a mile from Mr Bridle's place to bathe, accompanied by some younger children. One of them, it is believed, got out of her depth, and the other seeing her peril attempted to rescue her, but only shared her fate.
The younger children seeing both sick ran home, but, when as is tance arrived it was too late to be of avail. The body of Miss Darlow was recovered, but the, conmpanion's helpess form could not at the time be found.
Intelligence was sent to the Police and a constasle was dispatched to the spot; but up to the time of writing he had not returned.
The sad and sudden termination of the lives of these young girls will cast a gloom over a large circle of friends, and the deepest commiseration is felt for their sorrowing parents. - (Ref- Queanbeyan Age (NSW : 1867 - 1904) Wednesday 4 February 1880).

An accident that might have been attended with fatal results happened to a young man named Charles Bridle. Whilst crossing the Tumut River on a chair at Boraig, the wire rope that it runs on broke at one end, letting the chair and its occupant into the river, but. being a good swimmer, he lost no time in reaching the bank. As the water in this mountain stream proved too cold to be plea sant at this time of the year, the chairman who so hastily vacated his seat can thank a good constitution far his rapid and complete recovery. - (Ref- Albury Banner and Wodonga Express (NSW : 1896 - 1939)(about) Previous issue Friday 20 August 1897 Page 16).
