Brown, Nugent Wade (1841–1919) was born to parents John Brown & Charlotte Dowling.
The death of Mr. Nugent Wade-Brown, of Haddington, Sandgate, occurred in Sydney last Friday.
His wife, who was a daughter of the late Mr. John Antill, of Jarvisfield, Picton, N.S.W., predeceased him about 15 years ago.
The late Mr. Brown arrived in Queensland in the early 60's, and was one of the first residents of Gympie. Subsequently he managed Gin Gin and Barolin stations, in the Burnett district, for the late Hon. Alfred Henry Brown. When these properties were sold he became managing director of the Ban Ban Pastoral Company, of Ban Ban station, near Gayndah. After the sale of Ban Ban, he made his home at Sandgate, and was a loyal churchman and a public-spirited citizen, becoming later a keen war worker.
Brown. -On the 8th April,1875 at Lansdowne Terrace, Goulburn. New South Wales, the wife of Nugent Wade Brown, Esq., of a daughter. - (Ref- The Queenslander (Brisbane, Qld. : 1866 - 1939)(about) Previous issue Saturday 1 May 1875).
He leaves a family of two sons and seven daughters. With Mr. Brown passes yet another of the rapidly dwindling band of early colonists. He had spent the last few months of his life in writing his reminiscences, which cover an interesting period of time.
Coral Waters and Innes Park were originally part of the Brown Brothers property "Barolin Station”. The first residence to be built on the coast between Burnett Heads and Elliott Heads was "Barolin Homestead” situated high on the Esplanade in the area now known as Coral Cove. It was constructed by Nugent Wade Brown who acted as the agent and station manager for Brown Brothers. In 1860 the property was used to fatten bullocks, breed shorthorns and devon stud cattle as well as draught horses and blood horses. In 1881 the ‘Barolin Station’ was sold to a Maryborough syndicate.
In 1912 a surveyor, Sidney North Innes bought Barolin Station and resided in the homestead. In 1930 Sid and his wife donated land on the esplanade for public use.
The new village of Innes Park saw it’s beginnings in 1950 when Sidney Burnett (son of Sidney North Innes) approved the surveying of a 27 acre park area along the Esplanade and the mouth of Palmer’s Creek with 35 blocks set behind.
Innes Park has now blossomed into a delightful coastal community, with a large expanse of oceanfront parkland and recreational area that provides a network of coastal pathways, playgrounds, skatebowl, volleyball court, BBQ and picnic facilities for the community.
In 2001, the Deering Family purchased their dream property, a coastal farm situated behind the Esplanade of Innes Park, within easy walking distance of the beach and only a short drive from Bundaberg. They built their dream home and raised their family along with a collection of ‘named cows’ on the property.
In 2006, they decided to share the unique lifestyle and location with others by creating a small boutique development called Coral Waters Estate. Stages 1-4 were constructed and sold. In 2011, Stage 5a was released for sale. Once complete, the Council approved Stage 5b, will provide a formal pathway to link Coral Waters to the Esplanade, parkland and Palmers Creek.
The Deerings’ still reside on the property and take great pride in keeping the estate well maintained. - (Ref- http://www.bundaberglandforsale.com.au/location/history).
