The Late Pte. Ron. Hartshorn
The following letter has been received by Mr. Albert Hartshorn, of Bruugle, from the Chaplain of his son Ronald's Company after Rouald had been killed in action in New Guinea :- 'DKAH Silt. HARTSHORN,— This, letter has been out my mind for some time, but nothing could lie written until you had been 'officially notilied of your son's death. At such a time seem things, but I offer such consolation as I may. I knew your son well. He was a good soldier and comrade and was held in high regard by the men of his company. At the time of his death he was on duty. The enemy shelled the position and your son was killed instantly. He was given Christian burial with all honor and respect' and in the presence of his company. His grave is marked with a temporary cross. Later the Graves Commission will make everything permanent. His loss is a sad one to us. He shall remember him as a friend and gallant comrade. We pray that such sacrifice as his will usher in a new and better world. May God bless and comfort you and yours in your sad loss.
