In 1876 George Richard Johnson was born at "Wattle Vale" Tumut as shown on son George Richard's Baptism Record and (Ref- NSW BDM 21179/1876) This property was just south of Brandy Mary's Flat on the Monaro Highway. His parents were Napoleon Bonaparte JOHNSON & Elizabeth Ann QUARMBY. George Richard Johnson died in 1956 in Cootamundra, NSW.

MARRIAGE

George Richard Johnson married Miss Harriett BRUMBY . who was born in 1885 in Tumut. They married in 1909 in Tumut.

HISTORY - Tumut and Adelong Times - Friday 24.8.1956.

The late Mr George Johnson of Tumut, whose death is reported elsewhere in this issue, was a son of the late Mr and Mrs N B Johnson of Jones Bridge, Blowering, where he was born and went to school.

In early manhood he was a carrier between Tumut and Gundagai before the advent of the railway and later was farming at Gilmore and Goup and managed his mothers property at Jones Bridge for a time.

He married Miss Harriet Brumby, by whom he is survived. Two other survising sisters not included in the other reference in this issue are Lillian ( Mrs W Grady of Grahamstown) and Ivy (Mrs Stan Prowse of Tumut). Deceased had resided in Herbert Street, Tumut for many years.

OBITUARY - Mr G R Johnson
A well known Tumut identity Mr George Richard Johnson, 80 passed away at the Cootamundra District Hospital early last Saturday morning.

He is survived by his widow Mr Harriet Johnson, of 35 Herbert Street,Tumut. Two of his sons, Gordon and Horace, live at Cootamundra.

Other members of the family are Ella (Mrs J Nuttall, Tumut), Claire (Mrs W Bamwell, Tumut), Walter (Tumut), Fred (Tumut), Jack (Western Australia).

The funeral left the Church of England Cootamundra after a surface at3 o'clock on Sunday afternoon. - (Ref Margaret B)
