POST-OFFICE BURNT. TUMUT, Monday

Fire at the residence of Mr Kevin McKey, "Killalue" West Blowering, 10 miles south of Tumut destroyed the four roomed weather board detached portion of the residence with its contents. The building had been used as the West Blowering post-office and telephone exchange. When Mr McKey was awaken in the early hours of the morning the fire was too far advanced fer him to reach, the telephone to call assistance. Mr McKey battled with the flames alone and saved the front portion of his residence of brick construction. The building destroyed was valued at £350 and was insured for £150. There was in addition an insurance of £65 on the contents and £35 on a radio set. - (Ref- The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954)(about) Tuesday 9 October 1934.)
