Police Honor Roll
.
The Honour Roll commemorates those members of the New South Wales Police Force who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the execution of their duty.
This official NSW Police Honour Roll records the name, rank, date and a precis of each death which has been accepted as duty-related by the various Commissioners (and Inspectors General) of Police of the day.
Also included on the Honour Roll is the first recorded death on duty of a serving member of any Australian Police jurisdiction.
Unfortunately due to the nature of policing, this Honour Roll will never be complete.
May they rest in peace - lest we forget.

He was aged 45 years, Sergt. McAvoy, who was a popular figure in the district for many years, was stationed at Pooncarie . In 1933 ho was transferred to Tibooburra, where he spent 'about four years'. He was shifted to Moama in 1937, but owing to his extensive knowledge of tho western district ho was in 1940 transferred as officer in charge at Wilcannia. In May, 1942, Sergt. McAvoy was transferred again, his new appointment being Adelong. Some time after his transfer, however, his health failed, and as far as is known locally he had been bed-ridden since. He was a patient in Tumut Hospital suffering from probable meningitis for some time, but the actual cause of death is not known. He leaves a widow. Constable Fred Marshall, who was formerly stationed at Broken Hill, married Joyce, a step-daughter of Sergt. McAvoy. Constable Marshall is at present at Adelong. While stationed in this district, Sergt. McAvoy was a keen shooter, and took part in many clay pigeon shoots at Wilcannia.
